What is my own true appeal?
In contemplating the reasons for art, I’ve realized how complex, and yet simple it is. Primary, is the innate creative impulse that every living thing experiences; whether that be to pro-create, to re-create or for some people, to dream then manifest some idea into 3 Dimensional reality – in the case of an ‘artist’, using art media. Where the art work lands, very much depends on the era and context. Historically art has told the stories of conquerors and conquered; reaffirmed the beauty of landscape, recorded special events and typical daily activities. Art has bolstered political positions, and memorialized tragic events. These days we are seeing the rise of art supporting sociopolitical causes. Only time will tell which campaigns’ (symbols & gestures – like the black fist of the 60’s) will prevail as influencing the grass roots energy aiming at creating an interconnected – Earth system at this time of great change. I honor and support this evolutionary work.
I also acknowledge that my personal impulse to create arises from a desire to reaffirm life & it’s mysterious energies; to visualize the more subtle structures that link humans and nature. These are often sourced from esoteric traditions and exist outside of the space/time we are conditioned to perceive within our daily lives. Through sacred geometry, color, shape and pattern, my intention is to enhance a viewer’s personal vibration. When you merge with the visual, feel inspired and centered, you are more likely to respond in a compassionate way, than succumb to old ‘dualist’ habits of ‘fighting the Other’. So my artistic approach to changing the world is to uplift the individual to be clear and centered so they act wisely.
