Organisms co-exist in a landscape of atypical scales and colors; the microscopic is enlarged to the size of macroscopic, the ‘earth’ is blue and ‘sky’ red.  A shift in perception reveals new landscapes. This one is populated by diatoms, appearing as trees, arising from a blue substratum.  Diatoms are micro-algae, found in the oceans, waterways and soils of the world.  They form a significant portion of the Earth’s biomass, and generate about 20 – 50 % of the annual oxygen production; they are honored here as unsung planetary heroes.

Below the arc of blue ‘trees’ is a beetle, symbol of new life and transition, on the earth plane.  Within the fiery sky is a butterfly, also symbolic of transformation; here, transitioning from earth to air realm.  A fiery ‘sky’ is the also the backdrop of the top panel; a large star-shaped diatom expands its’ inner light to the life below, as does a flowering branch, possibly a significant constellation, pointing towards the life forms below.
